New Zealand reports no new cases of COVID-19

WELLINGTON, July 23 (BSS/Xinhua) – New Zealand reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday in managed isolation facilities, with the number of active cases in the country being 22, according to the Ministry of Health.

It has now been 83 days since the last case of COVID-19 was acquired locally from an unknown source, said a ministry statement.

There are five new recovered cases, which means the total number of active cases in New Zealand dropped to 22, it said, adding there is no one in New Zealand receiving hospital-level care for COVID-19.

The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 remains at 1,205, which is the number reported to the World Health Organization.

On Wednesday, laboratories across New Zealand completed 2,419 tests, of which 482 were in managed isolation and quarantine facilities and just under 2,000 in the community, according to the ministry.

“The ministry continues to work closely with the sector on ways to ensure our testing rates maintain an adequate baseline level nationwide to give us an appropriate level of assurance that we will get an early indication if there are any cases in the community,” Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield told a press conference.
