DHAKA, July 22, 2020 (BSS) – A doctor couple was severely burnt in a fire caused from hand sanitizer and a flammable object at their residence in city’s Hatirpool area in the early hours of today.
The victims are identified as Dr Rajib Bhattacharya, 36, a doctor of Neurosurgery Department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and his wife Dr Onushua Bhattacharya, 32 a physician of Eye Department of Shyamoli Central Medical.
The fire broke out around 2am as the hand sanitizer came into contact with a cigarette or mosquito coil while Rajib was pouring the liquid into a small bottle from a big container.
They are now undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Around 87 percent of Rajib’s body and 20 percent of his wife’s body have been burnt, said hospital sources.
