COVID-19 cases cross 5,100 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 22, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 5,100 mark as 117 new patients were reported after testing 376 collected samples on Tuesday at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division.

“The total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,105 in all eight districts of the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the total 5,105 patients stands at 1,515 in Rangpur, 222 in Panchagarh, 596 in Nilphamari, 284 in Lalmonirhat, 357 in Kurigram, 294 in Thakurgaon, 1,274 in Dinajpur and 563 Gaibandha of the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said, the number of recovered patients rose to 3,358 with the healing of 67 more people on Sunday in the division.

The 3,358 recovered COVID-19 patients include 1,077 of Rangpur, 144 of Panchagarh, 468 of Nilphamari, 187 of Lalmonirhat, 195 of Kurigram, 216 of Thakurgaon, 766 of Dinajpur and 305 of Gaibandha districts.

“Presently, the rate of recovery of the coronavirus infected patients stands around 65.78 percent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Khan said. As two more deaths, with one each from Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat, reported on Tuesday, the total number of fatalities to 86 with the casualty rate of around 1.68 percent in the division.

The 86 deceased people include 26 of Rangpur, 24 of Dinajpur, 12 of Gaibandha, nine of Nilphamari, five of Kurigram, four in Panchagarh and three each of Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

Among the total 5,105 COVID-19 patients, 181 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 3,358 recovered patients and 86 deaths while 1,480 remaining in home isolations in the division.

“During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 452 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 431 others released in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

A total of 57,104 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 51,065 released and 6,039 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines since the beginning.

“We have so far tested a total of 35,585 collected samples of Rangpur division till Tuesday night, and of them, 5,105 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 14.05 percent,” Dr. Khan added.

“After receiving a total of 1,74,313 personal protection equipment sine the beginning, we have distributed 1,06,324 pieces among the health service providers with 67,989 pieces of the same are remaining in stock in the division,” Dr. Khan added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu urged the people to abide by the health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam said the administrations, law enforcement agencies and all authorities concerned are working shoulder-to-shoulder to face the COVID-19 situation in the division.
