Hasan suggests BNP to see their face in mirror on tackling flood

DHAKA, July 21, 2020 (BSS) – Smacking BNP for remaining away from
responding to the needs of the flood-hit people, Information Minister
Dr Hasan Mahmud today suggested BNP to see their own face in the
mirror to know what it did for the flood victims.

In a flash back to the past Awami League government’s handling of
the 1998’s flood that reported no death from starvation, Hasan said
likewise the government has taken adequate remedial measures to
address the miseries of the current flood affected people in the
country.

“During the BNP tenure, thousands of people died and huge property
were damaged in the 1991 severe cyclone due to lack of their
decision,” he told reporters at the Awami League political office in
city’s Dhanmondi.

The minister said more than one dozen of planes of Bangladesh Air
Force were damaged due to mismanagement of the BNP government at that
time.

Castigating BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi for dubbing the government
preparations to tackle the current flood as ‘insufficient’, Hasan said
Begum Khaleda Zia after the cyclone told parliament that casualties in
the cyclone were fewer than that of prediction.

“I’ve learnt to pay respect to the senior from my family and my
leader as well. But the reality is that, when bodies of cyclone
victims were floating on the water in Chattogram, BNP chairperson and
former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia changed her seven ‘sarees’ in
a day on the occasion of the visit of a foreigner,” said Hasan, also
AL joint general secretary.

About the situation of the capital following raining, Hasan said the
water-logging is less than before of Dhaka city. Besides, the Dhaka
Wasa is implementing a project involving Taka 100 crore from last year
to mitigate the problem, he added.
