117 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 21, 2020 (BSS) – More 117 people were tested positive
for coronavirus today at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur
division where a limited scale community transmission of the deadly
virus continues at places.

Health officials said the 117 new infected cases were reported
after diagnosing 376 samples collected from all eight districts in the
division at the two laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur today.

Of them, 71 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples
at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in
Rangpur city.

“The new 71 patients include 30 of Rangpur, nine of Gaibandha, 16 of
Lalmonirhat, 15 of Kurigram and one of Nilphamari districts,” said
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

Besides, 46 more new patients were reported after diagnosing 188
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 46 new COVID-19 patients include 37 of Dinajpur, five of
Nilphamari and four of Panchagarh districts,” Principal of MARMC
Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker told BSS after completing the testing
process at 7:25 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19
patients stridently rose to 5,105 as 117 new cases were reported from
across the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 5,105 patients stands at
1,516 in Rangpur, 222 in Panchagarh, 596 in Nilphamari, 284 in
Lalmonirhat, 357 in Kurigram, 293 in Thakurgaon, 1,275 in Dinajpur and
562 Gaibandha of the division,” he added.
