7 held with stolen govt medicines in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 21, 2020 (BSS) – Seven people, including three members
of an organised gang of government medicine stealing circle, were
arrested with huge stolen medicine worth Taka two lakh in the
metropolis in the early hours of today.

Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police
(RpMP) Kazi Muttaki Ibnu Minan disclosed this in a press briefing
arranged at Mahiganj police station premises this afternoon.

The arrested persons also include owners of four pharmacies of
different areas in the metropolis.

The arrested were gang member and Office Assistant of Rangpur Civil
Surgeon’s Office Saher Zaman, 53, gang members Khondker Abdus Salam,
55, of village Pathok Shikor in Pirgachha upazila and Abdur Rahman,
45, of Dewantuli area in the city.

The arrested pharmacy owners were Hashem Reza, 42, and Kamal
Chandra Roy, 41, of Mahiganj area and Dhiren Chandra Barman, 34, and
Dipal Chandra Barman, 30, of Bokchee area of the metropolis.

“Acting on a tip off, a special team of Mahiganj police station of
RpMP first arrested gang member Abdur Rahman from Mahiganj Dewantuli
area and subsequently, pharmacy owners Hashem, Kamal, Dhiren and Dipal
from other places,” Minan said.

Later, the police team arrested other gang members Saher Zaman from
New Jummapara area in the metropolis and Khondker Abdus Salam from
Pathok Shikor area in Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur.

A case was filed a case against the arrested persons under the
Special Power Act of 1974 with RpMP’s Mahiganj police station.

Assistant Police Commissioner of RpMP for Mahiganj Zone Md. Faruk
Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Mahiganj police station Md. Akhteruzzaman
Prodhan and its Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Shah Alam Sarder,
were present in the press conference.
