COVID-19 cases in Rangpur division climb to 4,988

RANGPUR, July 21, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases climbed to 4,988 in Rangpur division as 81 new patients were reported on Monday from two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur and Dinajpur in the division.

Health officials said the 81 new patients were reported after diagnosing a total of 376 collected samples of suspected coronavirus patents from all eight districts of Rangpur division.

“With the report of 81 new patients, the total number of COVID-19 cases jumped to 4,988 in Rangpur division till 8 am today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the total 4,988 patients stands at 1,486 in Rangpur, 218 in Panchagarh, 590 in Nilphamari, 268 in Lalmonirhat, 342 in Kurigram, 293 in Thakurgaon, 1,238 in Dinajpur and 553 Gaibandha of the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 3,291 with the healing of 51 more people on Monday at the recovery rate of around 65.98 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddique said.

The 3,291 recovered COVID-19 patients include 1,048 of Rangpur, 144 of Panchagarh, 461 of Nilphamari, 184 of Lalmonirhat, 195 of Kurigram, 215 of Thakurgaon, 746 of Dinajpur and 298 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said 235 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 423 others released in the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Since the beginning, a total of 56,642 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 50,484 released and 6,158 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in all eight districts of the division.

“A total of 35,961 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, 4,988 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 13.87 percent,” Dr. Khan said.

Among the total 4,988 COVID-19 patients, 178 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 3,291 recovered patients and 84 deaths while 1,435 remaining in home isolations in the division.

One more death was reported on Monday from Gaibandha raising the total number of fatalities to 84 with the casualty rate of around 1.68 percent in the division.

Among the 84 deceased, 26 people died in Rangpur, 23 in Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, nine in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, four in Panchagarh, three in Thakurgaon and two people died in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam said authorities concerned are working shoulder-to-shoulder in a coordinated manner for preventing COVID-19 spread and providing proper health services to infected patients.

Highest efforts have been put on inspiring the common people in abiding by the health directives in sacrificial animal markets before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity and everywhere to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in the division.

“The government hospitals and health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to provide treatments to the infected patients and face the situation in the division,” Islam added
