Flood situation further improves in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, July 20, 2020 (BSS)- With the recession of water in the river Jamuna and Old Brahmaputra the overall flood situation in the district has further improved .

Jamuna dropped by five centimetres (CM) and was flowing 87 cm over the red mark (19.50 meter) at Bahadurabad ghat point during the last 24 hours ending 12 this noon.

The water in the river Brahmaputra receded by one cm and was flowing one cm over the danger level at Jamalpur Ferry Ghat point during the last 24 hours ending 12 this noon.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said flood situation in the district is slowly improving.

The office said nine lakh 94 thousand 707 people in 677 villages under 59 out of 68 unions in the district have been affected in the flood .

District Fisheries Officer, Mohammad Kaiser Moinul Hassan said flood water damaged infrastructures of water bodies which washed away fishes worth about TK nine crore 56 lakh 85 thousand.

He said flood water damaged 2734 water bodies affecting 2355 fish cultivators in all seven Upazilas of the district.

Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture Extension Mohammad Aminul Islam said standing crops on 11014 hectares of land went under flood water.

Nearly 15000 flood hit people took shelter in 79 flood shelter centres .
