RpMP launches tree plantation campaign in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 20, 2020 (BSS) – Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) has launched the National Tree Plantation Campaign 2020 in the city responding to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for plantation of one crore saplings across the country marking the Mujib Year.

Police Commissioner of RpMP Abdul Alim Mahmud opened the campaign by distributing saplings and masks among heads of 100 educational institutions in a function held at Babu Kahn High School ground on Sunday afternoon, said a press release today.

Under the campaign, 10,000 saplings of fruit, timber and medicinal trees will be planted on the premises of 100 educational institutions in the metropolis.

Deputy Police Commissioner of RpMP Mohammad Abu Sufian presided over the function arranged maintaining physical distance in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to prevent community transmission of the lethal virus.

Deputy Police Commissioners of RpMP Abu Bakar Siddique, Mohidul Islam, Kazi Muttaki Ibne Minan, Abu Maruf Hassan and Abu Sayem, other senior RpMP officials and heads of different educational institutions attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, the RpMP Chief laid emphasis on massive tree plantation at all possible places, including premises of educational institutions and homesteads, to adapt to the changing climate for maintaining ecological balance in nature.
“The students and youths should play a leading role in planting tree saplings to create an eco-friendly and disaster resilient green nature for saving the planet from adverse impacts of climate change to keep it habitable for all living beings,” he said.
