Mayur-2 sukani confesses guilt in Burigan launch capsize case

DHAKA, July 19, 2020 (BSS) – Md Nasir Mridha, sukani of MV Mayur-2, today gave confessional statement in the negligent death case lodged over the drowning of ML Morning Bird on June 29.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahjadi Tahmida recorded the statement under section 164 as investigation officer (IO) and sub-inspector Shahidul Alam of Sadarghat River Police Station produced the accused before the court and pleaded to record his confessional statement.

Meanwhile, the court of Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajib Ahsan today sent two engine drivers of Mayur-2, Shipon Hawlader and Shakil to jail, scrapping their pleas for bail.

According to the police, instead of master Abul Baser, sukani Nasir was driving the Mayur-2 as it rammed into the smaller size ML Morning Bird, drowning it instantly along with its 34 passengers.

Police on July 15 arrested Nasir from a cargo ship named MV Rajib-2 in Bagerhat.
