124 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 18, 2020 (BSS) – More 124 people were tested positive
for coronavirus after testing samples today at two laboratories in
Rangpur division where community transmission of the deadly virus
continues rising at places in recent days.

Health officials said the 124 new infected cases were reported after
diagnosing 376 samples collected from all eight districts in the
division at the laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur.

Of them, 61 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at
the COVID-19 Laboratory today at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in
Rangpur city.

“The new 61 patients include 29 of Rangpur, 10 of Gaibandha, 13 of
Lalmonirhat and nine of Kurigram districts,” said Chief of Divisional
Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC
Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 63 more new patients were reported after
diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim
Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 63 new COVID-19 patients include 35 of Dinajpur, 16 of
Panchagarh, 11 of Thakurgaon and one of Gaibandha districts,”
Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker told BSS after
completing the testing process at 6:55 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19
patients sharply climbed to 4,803 as 124 new cases were reported from
across the division.

The district-wise break up of the total 4,803 patients stands at
1,445 in Rangpur, 210 in Panchagarh, 581 in Nilphamari, 252 in
Lalmonirhat, 327 in Kurigram, 284 in Thakurgaon, 1,181 in Dinajpur and
523 Gaibandha in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
