AL wants patriotic opposition, not anti-state one: Khalid

DINAJPUR, July 18, 2020 (BSS) – State minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said Awami League wanted a patriotic opposition party which would work for the country’s welfare and not work against the state.

“We don’t want anti-state persons rather we want a patriotic opposition party who will work for the betterment of the nation,” he told the inaugural ceremony of a tree-plantation campaign of AL marking the Mujib Year on the premises of Bochaganj upazila parishad under his Dinajpur-2 consistency.

Alerting against anti-state activities, Khalid said if anyone wants to obstruct any development activities, he or she will be dealt with strong hands.

The state minister also laid foundation stones of a host of development works, distributed wheelchairs, bicycles, vans and sewing machines under Annual Development Programme (ADP) project and distributed cash.

He said those who amassed illegal money through corruption and irregularities during the previous BNP-Jamaat governments cannot tolerate the success of the incumbent government.

Amidst the global coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the state minister said, the government has been making its all-out strides to keep the wheel of economy running along with safeguarding the public health.

Khalid laid foundation stones of road widening works from Setabganj upazila sugar mills under Bochaganj upazila to Meherpur haat GC via Nauwabhita haat at a cost of Taka 12.63 crore, construction works of two-storied Grameen Bazaar Bhaban (four-storied foundation) amounting Taka four crore and Bochaganj upazila complex extension building and hall room construction works at a cost of Tk 5.98 crore.

Besides, he distributed 22 wheelchairs, 30 vans, 72 bicycles, 63 sewing machines and cash money of voluntary funds among different beneficiary individuals and institutions on the occasion.

Chaired by upazila nirbahi officer Chhada Paul, the function was attended by executive engineer Md Zakiur Rahman, Setabganj municipality mayor Md Abdus Sabur, upazila AL president Md Abu Syed Hossain and general secretary Md Afsar Ali and Bochaganj upazila engineer Md Anwar Hossain, among others.
