66.23pc COVID-19 patients recover in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 18, 2020 (BSS) – Despite sharp rise in the daily number of coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients in recent days, the recovery rate among them continues rising and currently stands at 66.23 percent in Rangpur division

Health officials said the number of recovered COVID-19 patients currently stands at 3,099 with the healing of 94 more infected people at the dedicated corona hospitals or isolations at homes on Friday in the division.

“At the same time, 138 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in a day on Friday raising their total number to 6,679 in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

A total of 34,833 collected samples of Rangpur division were so far tested till Friday night, and of them, 4,679 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 13.43 percent in the division.

“The COVID-19 infection rate among the total tested samples of 34,833 suspected people stands at 13.43 percent while the recovery rate of 66.23 percent among total 4,679 positive cases till this morning in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The number of recovered COVID-19 patients stood at 997 among total 2,159 infected people with the recovery rate of 46.17 percent around a month back on June 19 in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 4,679 patients stands at 1,416 in Rangpur, 194 in Panchagarh, 581 in Nilphamari, 239 in Lalmonirhat, 318 in Kurigram, 273 in Thakurgaon, 1,146 in Dinajpur and 512 in Gaibandha in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Besides, the district-wise break-up of the total 3,099 recovered COVID-19 patients is 992 in Rangpur, 144 in Panchagarh, 432 in Nilphamari, 170 in Lalmonirhat, 175 in Kurigram, 212 in Thakurgaon, 682 in Dinajpur and 292 in Gaibandha.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the total number of fatalities stood at 80 till Friday in the division.

The district-wise break up of fatalities stands at 26 in Rangpur, 22 in Dinajpur, 10 in Gaibandha, nine in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, four in Panchagarh, two each in Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat districts.

A total of 55,615 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in Rangpur division, among them, 49,197 have so far been released and 6,418 are remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

A total of 1,74,316 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) were received so far, 1,04,979 pieces distributed with a stock of 69,334 pieces in the division.

“We have also received 11,140 masks and distributed 4,677 with 6,363 pieces in hand, got 60,854 hand gloves and distributed 50,150 with 10,704 pieces in stock and received 8,983 bottles of hexisol and distributed 5,468 with 3,515 bottles in stock,” Dr. Khan said.

The government hospitals and other health services providing facilities of Rangpur division have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to provide treatments to the infected patients and face the COVID-19 situation.

Divisional Commissioner (General) KM Tariqul Islam said comprehensive steps have been taken to inspire the people in abiding by the health directives to prevent COVID-19 spread and provide health services to the infected patients to face the situation.
