Counterfeit money case filed against Shahed Karim

DHAKA, July 16, 2020 (BSS) – A counterfeit money case was filed against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed Karim with the Uttara West Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the case against the Shahed, owner of the Regent Hospital, officer-in-charge (OC) of the concerned police station Tapan Chandra Saha told BSS this evening.

The OC said after the arrest from Satkhira frontier area on Wednesday, RAB took Mohammad Shahed along with Regent Group Managing Director (MD) Masud Parves to a secret office at Sector 11, Road No. 20 in Uttara and recovered 1.46 lakh counterfeit money.

In the counterfeit money case, Shahed’s close aide and some unidentified names were included.

Shahed admitted that he used to give counterfeit money to the creditors, the OC added.

As many as 51 cases, including issuing fake Covid-19 (Coronavirus) test reports scam and possessing illegal firearms, were filed against Shahed Karim.

Meanwhile, the court today put Shahed on a 10-day remand as the Detective Branch (DB) of police sought remand for quizzing him more.
