DHAKA, July 16, 2020 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on
Shipping today recommended the concerned agency heads to expedite the
implementation of the projects undertaken in the financial year
2019-2020.
The committee made the recommendation at its 21st meeting held at
Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee chairman Major (retd)
Rafiqul Islam in the chair, said a press release.
The committee members also stressed on quick filling of vacant posts
of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Bangladesh
Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).
The two chairpersons of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority
(BIWTA) and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at
the meeting, presented the development activities, dredging situation
and steps taken in the current Corona situation of the country.
The meeting was informed that e-ticketing activities would be taken
at Sadarghat Launch Terminal to avoid harassment of passengers and
unintended accidents on the waterways.
Committee members -Shajahan Khan, M Majharul Haq Prodhan, Ranjit
Kumar Roy, M Aslam Hossen Sawdagar and SM Shahjada, among others, took
part in the meeting, added the release.
Among others, Shipping Secretary, BIWTA chairman, BIWTC chairman,
and other high officials concerned of the parliament secretariat were
also present.
