President, PM greet all on 1cr tree plantation campaign in Mujib Year
DHAKA, July 15, 2020 (BSS) – President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted all concerned marking 1 crore tree plantation campaign across the country on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The theme of the three-month long one-crore tree plantation campaign-2020 across the country that will start tomorrow is ‘ Mujib Borshor Ahoban, Lagai Gach Barai Bon’.
On the eve of the day, the President and the Prime Minister issued separate messages wishing success of the programme.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman always wanted to see Bangladesh as a modern and developed country free from hunger and poverty.
He underscored the need of instilling Bangabandhu’s dreams and aspirations into the young generation, including the tender-hearted children so that the country could see a green Bangladesh with a healthy, beautiful and clean environment in the days to come.
“Trees are our invaluable resource. Trees protect us from many cyclones like Mahasen, Sidr, Aila, Fani and Bulbul. Those trees save the coastal villages from cyclones and tidal surges as well,” the head of the state added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a separate message said: “On the birth centenary of the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, I think the theme of the three-month-long campaign for planting one-crore trees is very time-befitting.”
The premier extended her sincere congratulations and best wishes to all concerned to mark the one-crore tree plantation campaign.
The Awami League government is playing an important role in environmental protection along with other activities to materialize Bangabandhu’s dream of building ‘Sonar Bangla’, she said.
She added that the role of trees in preserving environment, preventing land degradation, reducing the desertification in the country, creating a carbon base, tackling natural disasters, alleviating poverty and tackling the adverse effects of climate change is undeniable.
The Forest Department is implementing afforestation activities in treeless and degraded forests, marginal lands and coastal areas, she said.
Moreover, it has achieved considerable success in implementing social forestation activities by involving the local poor women as well as the general people as beneficiaries, she said, adding that in addition to increasing family income, social afforestation has been playing a leading role in making the family self-reliant, alleviating poverty and creating a clean environment for future generations.
To make a hunger and poverty-free and happy-prosperous country dreamt by the father of the nation, the premier called for joint efforts of all so that it could happen.
“With the help of all, Bangladesh will emerge as a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041,” she wished.
