Flood situation deteriorates in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, July 15, 2020 (BSS) – Flood situation in the district further deteriorated as water level in the river Jamuna is continued to rise.

The flood water affected over four lakh people of 49 unions in all the seven upazilas of the district.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said flood water submerged standing crops- T-Aman seed bed on 739 hectares, Aush paddy on 1,666 hectares and Jute on 2,127 hectares of land.

According to Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), during the last 24 hours Jamuna rose by 20 cm and was flowing 126 cm over the red mark (19.50 meter) at Bahadurabad ghat point ending 12 this noon.

Dewanganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sultana Razia said flood water affected 20 thousand families in the upazila. 500 families took shelter in five flood centers.

She said 31 tones rice, cash Taka 2.5 lakh and 1000 packets dried food were disbursed among the flood hit people. VGF rice are being distributed among 57 thousand families in the upazila.

Besides, Taka 50 thousand for livestock food and Taka 50 thousand for baby food were also allotted in the upazila, she added.
