8 JM workers get TK 27.39 crore wages in Khulna

KHULNA, July 15, 2020 (BSS) -Government has distributed over TK 27.39 crore as wages for the month of June 2020 among workers of eight state run Jute Mills in Khulna.

The salaries of nearly 50,000 workers have already been deposited to their respective bank accounts from Tuesday (July 14) afternoon, an official of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) said today.

“Government has started payment of remuneration of the state owned jute mill workers as per directives of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Mizanur Rahman, a worker of Platinum Jute Mill, said that the workers have started collection of their wages from their respective bank accounts since yesterday afternoon.

Shahana Sharmin, CBA president of the Jute Mills, said the one month salary has been deposited to their accounts on Tuesday. .

Project Head of Platinum Jute Mill, Ghulam Rabbani said the workers have been paid TK over 6.61 crore through the bank since Tuesday afternoon.

He said, workers of Platinum, Crescent, Star, Khalishpur, Daulatpur and Eastern Jute Mills of Khulna, Jashore Jute Industries (JJI) and Carpeting Jute Mills of Jashore have been paid TK 27 crore 39 lakh and 17 thousand for four week’ wages for the month of June.

The one month salary paid among the mills workers are TK 67.84 lakh for Carpeting, TK two crore 85 lakh 71 thousand for JJI, TK one crore 95 lakh 38 thousand for Eastern, TK six crore 83 lakh 86 thousand for Crescent, TK six crore 61 lakh 5 thousand for Platinum, TK four crore 62 lakh 89 thousand for Star, TK 3 crore 30 lakh 81 thousand for Khalishpur and TK 51 lakh 73 thousand for Daulatpur Jute Mill.

Talking to BSS, Khulna Regional Coordinator of BJMC Baniz Uddin Mia said wages for the month of June have been paid to workers of the eight state owned jute mills.

However, wages of the workers of Aleem Jute Mill could not be paid owing to its ownership complications .

“Wages of for the months of July and August will be paid in time and at least 50 percent of their wages including provident fund (PF) and gratuity will be paid by next September and the rest 50 percent arrears to be paid to each worker as equivalent to three months saving certificates (Sanchaypatra) ” he said.

Government will however resume the operational activities of the jute mills under Public- Private Partnership to be equipped with sustainable modern machineries and skilled workers.
