Social resistance stressed to combat illegal drug tracking

Khulna, June 26, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a programme here today
underscored the need for political and social commitment to combat illegal
trafficking of drugs along with its trading to protect the young generation.

The observation came at a meeting held at the conference room of the
deputy commissioner here in observance of the International Day Against Drug
Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

District Administration and Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) jointly
organised the programme discussing ways and means on how to free the city
from the curse of abusing of drugs.

“Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow
healthy and safe” was the main theme of the day this year.

With acting deputy commissioner Moniruzzaman in the chair, the event was
addressed by Divisional Commissioner of Khulna Md Lokman Hossain as the chief
guest.

Khulna Police Commissioner Humayun Kabir, additional DIG of Khulna Range
Police AKM Nahidul islam, Police super S M Shafiullah,Civil Surgeon Dr SM
Abdur Razzak, District Education Officer Ruhul Ameen, City and District Unit
Commander of Bangladesh Muktijuddha Sangsad Professor Alamgir and Sarder
Mahbubur Rahman addressed as special guests.

Deputy director of Department of Narcotics Control Md Rasheduzzaman
delivered the welcome speech while Dr Sayed Mahbube Kibria, Medical Officer
of Department of Mental Illness of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH)
presented the key note paper.

During his keynote presentation, he said maladjustment, rising crime,
health hazards, murder and suicide are the major consequences of drug
abusing.

He said the law enforcing agencies alone isn’t capable to combat the
social menace but community participation coupled with family and social
contribution is very important to this end.

The chief guest said forging social resistance has become indispensable to
uproot the crime as it’s being adjudged as a grave concern in the society.

He urged the community people to extend their wholehearted cooperation
towards law enforcing agencies with authentic information about the drugs
traders and traffickers so that they could be brought to the book.

Later, the chief guest distributed prize among winners of art and essay
competitions.

Earlier, a colourful procession was brought out from Shaheed Hadis Park
that ended at the deputy commissioner’s office.
