DHAKA, July 14, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today rejected a plea for bail of sensational Sagira Morshed murder trial prime accused Maruf Reza.

A High Court virtual bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order after holding a hearing on the plea.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on January 14 filed charge sheet in the case over murder of Sagira Morshed Salam, 34, who was shot dead in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in city in 1989.

The other accused in the case are: Sagira’s brother-in-law Dr Hasan Ali Chowdhury, his wife Syedatul Mahmuda alias Shahin and Shahin’s brother Anas Mahmud alias Rezwan.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge court on March 9 took the charge sheet into cognizance and set March 15, which eventually deferred to April 16, for holding hearing on indictment. But due to the coronavirus crisis, the court is yet to hold hearing on the matter.

Sagira’s husband Salam Chowdhury filed a case with Ramna police station in connection with the murder of Sagira, who was gunned down by unidentified muggers in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital’s Bailey Road on July 25, 1989.
