One more arrested over Buriganga launch capsize

DHAKA, July 13, 2020 (BSS) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Mayur-2 launch master from South Keraniganj area last night in connection with Buriganga launch capsize case.

The arrested has been identified as Abul Bashar Mollah.

The RAB so far has arrested two, including the owner of Mayur-2 launch Mosaddeque Hanif Swad, for their alleged involvement in the launch capsize in the Buriganga river on June 29, said Senior ASP Sujoy Sarker, also assistant director of legal and media wing of the RAB.

After three-day remand on Sunday, Mosaddeque Hanif was appeared before a court and then senior chief judicial magistrate Shahjadi Tahmida sent him to the jail.

Earlier, Senior Judicial Magistrate Manika Khan placed him on three day remand.

On July 8, a Sadarghat river police team arrested Mosaddeque Hanif Swad, owner of MV Mayur-2 launch, from an apartment at Sobhanbagh in Kalabaghan.

On June 29, the ML Morning Bird capsized in the River Buriganga as the MV Mayur-2 hit it when the tiny launch reached Syambazar area adjacent to Sadarghat.

At least 34 bodies were recovered from the river after the launch capsize.

A case has been filed against seven people including the owner of Mayur-2 launch with Dakshin Keraniganj police station.
