SC allows two appeals through maiden virtual hearing

DHAKA, July 13, 2020 (BSS) – Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today held its maiden virtual hearing, allowing two appeals in two separate cases.

All six-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain held the hearing and observed it as part of regular court proceedings.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, in his observations, opined for taking forward the virtual hearing system, saying if it succeeds, the apex court would hold hearings on all five workings days a week.

“A total of 20 cases were there in today’s cause list. Of those, two were disposed of,” Supreme Court spokesperson and High Court Division Special Officer Md Saifur Rahman said.

Earlier in a notification on July 12, it was said the apex court would hold virtual hearings on two working days– Monday and Thursday– a week.
