Passport and laptop of Regent Hospital’s chairman seized

DHAKA, July 12, 2020 (BSS)- The investigation team raided the head office of Regent Hospital in city’s Uttara area on Saturday evening and seized passport, laptop and hard disks of its chairman Shahed Karim.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam, who was present with the investigating team, told the media that the concerned probe team found a total of 56 cases of fraudulent acts against Shahed so far as the victims contacted with RAB and police recently.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashique Billah, Director of the Legal and Media Wing of RAB, told BSS today that they are trying hard to nab Shahed Karim and the law enforcers are keeping an eye on everyone involved in the scam, including his wife Rimi.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on July 6 raided two hospitals of the Regent Group in Uttara and Mirpur and arrested eight persons for issuing fake corona test reports and certificates by using forged serial numbers and signatures, realizing illegal fees from the patients and running hospital business without any proper approval, among other charges.

RAB, on July 7, filed the case against 17 persons, including Regent Group chairman Md Shahed Karim, under sections 406/417/465/468/471/ and 269 of the Penal Code with the Uttara West Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Tapan Chandra Saha told BSS that seven accused in the Regent Hospital case are currently on a five-day police remand as the investigation is underway.
