Law enforcers to enforce health guidelines at cattle markets: home minister

DHAKA, July 12, 2020 (BSS) – As part of cautionary measures to stop spread of the deadly coronavirus infection, law enforcement agencies have been kept ready to enforce the health guidelines at all cattle markets ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said here today.

The home minister was presiding over a review meeting on the law and order situation ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha at his ministry’s conference room.

“The health ministry has prepared the health guidelines for markets of sacrificial animals aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus and law enforcers will work for maintaining it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the health ministry has taken a decision to set up makeshift cattle markets in the capital city and to this end the local government ministry and two city corporations will make arrangements, he said.

Importance has been given to buy sacrificial animals digitally in the country this year, as Covid-19 is highly contagious, Kamal added.

“Hand washing system facilitating basin and hand sanitizer will have to be ensured at the entrances of cattle markets by their lessees. Every buyer will have to wear mask, if anyone goes to markets without mask, he or she will have buy mask from lessees. Bank booths will be set up there,” he said.

The minister said no roadside or on the road makeshift cattle markets will be allowed to run, while banners with names of cattle markets will have to be hung on the trucks.

“No vehicles carrying sacrificial animals will be allowed to stop on roads and other places. Law enforcers will ensure security concerning counterfeit, extortion and ‘malam’ party,” he said.

Kamal said members of the coastguard and naval police will take actions against overloaded passengers’ ferries, launches and ships on riverine routes. Coastguard and naval police personnel will also take actions against trawlers carrying extra animals, he added.

The ministries of industries and commerce will take decisions on rawhides pricing and their proper marketing, he said.

The minister said BGMEA and tannery owners will take steps to pay workers’ salaries and bonus on time as garment factories will remain closed for a short period.

Besides, the religious ministry has decided to hold Eid-ul-Azha congregations (Jamaat) in mosques this year, he added.

The meeting was also attended, among others, by security division secretary Mustafa Kamal Uddin, security service division secretary Md Shahiduzzaman, inspector general of police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed and other officials concerned.
