DHAKA, July 12, 2020 (BSS) – The police will produce Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, chairman of private health facility JKG Healthcare, before the court tomorrow with a remand plea as she was arrested today in cases filed over the issuance of fake coronavirus (Covid-19) test reports.

She was taken to the Tejgaon zone deputy commissioner (DC) office for interrogation today over her involvement in the incident of test scam and later she was shown arrested at Tejgaon thana in the cases, DC of Tejagon Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid told BSS.

Earlier on June 24, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) members arrested JKG Healthcare Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ariful Chowdhury, husband of Sabrina, and five others for their alleged involvement in the Covid-19 tests scam.

Laptops and huge materials for collecting swabs from people have been recovered during a police raid at JKG office in Gulshan on that day.

Four cases were filed with the Tejgaon police station bringing charges against the JKG Healthcare of providing false reports without testing the swabs collected from the people for Covid-19 diagnosis.

Later, the arrestees were produced before a Dhaka court and afterwards taken on a two-day police remand and two of them gave confessional statements under section 164.

The JKG Healthcare issued Covid-19 tests reports to around 27,000 people and of the reports, 15,460 were prepared by the JKG’s own laptops in a fake way but 11,540 others were tested properly from IEDCR, sources said.

The JKG workers collected samples from different parts of the country including Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Narsingdi and received Taka 5,000 to 10,000 from each people and $100 from foreigners for each sample and thus they earned around Taka 8 crore illegally by issuing fake reports.

On Saturday, the Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) issued a press release explaining its stance over the alleged forgery of the private-run Regent Hospital and JKG Group.
