Govt ensuring possible best women healthcare in corona crisis: Indira

DHAKA, July 11, 2020 (BSS) – The government has been continuing to provide the best possible healthcare even at the pandemic crisis.

Elaborating the government’s measures for women development, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira said, “The government has been implementing various projects and programmes to consolidate women’s health, empowerment, child protection and achieve gender equality.”

She said this at a virtual meeting after inaugurating the ‘World Population Day’ as the chief guest organised by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Department of Population Sciences, Dhaka University.

Personnel from different ministries, universities, researchers also took part in the discussion, said a release.

The World Population Day-2020 was observed today across the country as elsewhere in the world tomorrow with an aim to draw global attention to the importance of population issues.

But, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, only online discussion was arranged in the country as no special programme will be taken.

The theme of the day this year was “safeguarding the health and rights of women and girls around the world especially during COVID-19 pandemic”.

The world population day was decided to be celebrated in 90 countries of the world for the first time on July 11 in 1990.
