Cattle supply and marketing to get healthy way during Eid : Rezaul

DHAKA, July 9, 2020 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said necessary steps will be taken by providing adequate cattle and marketing them in a healthy way on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

He made the remark while addressing an online meeting on ensuring supply and sale of cattle in a healthy manner at Qurbani Cattle Market at his ministry’s office room here.

Rezaul said that all concerned should be careful and work sincerely in order to abide by the hygiene rules at the sacrificial animal markets.

He asked those concerned in the production and supply of livestock to discharge their responsibilities properly.

The minister said the country has adequate supply of cattle for Qurbani.

According to the information of the Department of Livestock, this year, there is a stock of 1 crore 18 lakh 97 thousand and 500 cattle, including 45.38 lakh cows and buffaloes, 73.55 lakh goats and sheep and 4,500 other animals, for sacrifice on the occasion of Eid, he said.

“This year, we are trying to focus on the online markets in cattle marketing because of coronavirus pandemic,” he added.

He further said that a hotline will be set up at the Livestock Department to solve the problems of marketing and transportation of cattle and senior officials of the ministry will be involved full-time in this regard.

About 1,200 medical teams will work in the livestock markets, he said, adding that at the same time, a monitoring team consisting of officials of the ministry will be formed.

He said pragmatic measures will be taken to promote health rules at the Qurbani market.
