RCC implements Tk 796.12cr infrastructure development projects

RAJSHAHI, July 8, 2020 (BSS) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has been implementing six major projects involving around Taka 796.12 crore for infrastructural development in the city at present.

“We have also planned five other need-based projects of around Taka 4,191.21 crore for development of the city,” Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said while presiding over the sixth general meeting of the present council at the city bhaban conference hall on Tuesday.

He also told the meeting that the present government has approved a mega project involving around Taka 2,931.62 crore early this year for infrastructural development in the city.

Liton has called for generating more earning sources for strengthening the civic services of the city corporation as there is no alternative to finding out furthermore income sources to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the city dwellers through enhancing the civic amenities.

RCC Panel Mayors Shariful Islam Babu and Rajab Ali, Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin, Secretary Abu Hayat Rahmatullah, Ward Councilors and other divisional and sectional heads were present at the meeting.

Mayor Liton said the city corporation has been implementing various programmes to bring a qualitative change particularly in the field of infrastructural and environmental elevation in the metropolitan city.

Construction work of a flyover for the first time in the city is progressing fast, despite the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The 202.5-meter flyover along with a 120-meter ramp is being constructed at Budhpara Railway crossing with an estimated cost of Taka 29.28 crore.

The project is being implemented under the Taka 189.34 crore Rajshahi-Naogaon-Natore four-lane road construction schemes which will establish a direct link between the people of East and West sides of the city.

Upon successful completion of the ongoing pitch carpeting and some other necessary works, the road is expected to be opened for traffic movement formally within a shortest possible time.

“We are planning to establish Bangabandhu Eco Park on 100 acres of land and Sheikh Russell Science City and Safari Park in the city on another 100 acres of land within a shortest possible time,” Liton added.

He also said the city corporation has, so far, distributed 1,394.85 tonnes of rice, Taka 48.12 lakh in cash and 145 cartons of baby food among the families in need as part of the government humanitarian assistance to cope with the present Covid-19 pandemic situation.

With its own initiative, the corporation has also distributed 325.33 tonnes of rice, 58.68 tonnes of pulse, 58.45 tonnes of potato, 39 tonnes of pumpkin, 4.52 tonnes of spinach and 15.08 tonnes of flour to tackle the pandemic situation.
