COVID-19 cases cross 3,600 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 8, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) infected cases crossed the 3,600 mark as 79 new patients were reported positive after testing their samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division on Tuesday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 3,612 in all eight districts of the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the total 3,612 patients stands at 1,136 in Rangpur, 160 in Panchagarh, 423 in Nilphamari, 182 in Lalmonirhat, 235 in Kurigram, 237 in Thakurgaon, 808 in Dinajpur and 431 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, with the healing of 67 more COVID-19 infected people in the division on Tuesday, the total number of recovered patients rose to 2,249 now at the recovery rate of 62.26 percent.

“The 2,249 recovered coronavirus infected patients include 784 of Rangpur, 126 of Panchagarh, 318 of Nilphamari, 92 of Lalmonirhat, 120 of Kurigram, 171 of Thakurgaon, 446 of Dinajpur and 192 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said no more death was reported on Tuesday and the number of fatalities remains steady at 63 in Rangpur division.

The district-wise breakup of the fatalities stands at 19 in Rangpur, 15 in Dinajpur, 10 in Gaibandha, seven in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, three in Panchagarh, two each in Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat districts.

“Among the total 3,612 COVID-19 patients, 130 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 2,249 recovered patients and 63 deaths while 1,170 remaining in home isolations in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

He said a total of 51,584 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in Rangpur division.

Among the total quarantined people, 45,561 have so far been released and 6,023 are now remaining in home or institutional quarantines in the division.

“We have tested a total of 31,167 collected samples of Rangpur division till Tuesday, found 3,612 coronavirus positive cases with the infection rate of over 11.58 percent in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

After receiving a total of 1,73,316 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, 1,02,601 pieces of the same were distributed among the health service providers and 70,715 pieces are now in stock in the division.

“We have also received 11,040 masks and distributed 4,677 with 6,363 pieces in hand, got 60,854 hand gloves and distributed 50,150 with 10,704 pieces in stock and received 8,983 bottles of hexisol and distributed 5,468 with 3,515 bottles in stock,” he said.

Dr. Khan specially urged the people in abiding by the health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in the division.
