Two killed in ‘gunfight’ with police in Teknaf

Cox’s Bazar, July 7, 2020 (BSS) – Two people were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Teknaf upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Saddam Hossain, 20, son of late Sultan Ahmed of Maulvi Bazar area of Hnila Union in Teknaf and Abdul Jalil, 30, son of Ali Ahmed of Maheshkhalia Para area of Huaikeng West area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das said a team of police raided Maheshkhalia Para area of Teknaf this morning after receiving information that a consignment of yaba had been smuggled there.

As soon as the police reached the aforesaid area, the drug dealers started firing at them, forcing the lawenforcers to take revenge that ensued a gunfight.

Three members of the police were injured.

Police rescued two bullet-hit people from the spot and took them to Teknaf Health Complex.

Later, they were shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where they died.

Five thousands yaba, two home-made weapons and six rounds of fresh ammunition were recovered from the spot.
