Flood situation further improved in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, July 7, 2020 (BSS) – Overall flood situation in the district has significantly improved as the river Jamuna is now flowing below danger level.

Jamuna dropped by 23 cm and was flowing 10 cm below the red mark at Bahadurabad ghat point during the last 24 hours ending 12 this noon.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said over three lakh 96 thousand 744 people of 351 villages in 49 unions under all seven Upazilas of the district have been affected .

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said standing crops on 4455, out of 13343 hectares of land have been damaged by flood water.

The DAE office said the loss of crops on account of the flood was estimated at about TK 43 crore 52 lakh 66 thousand

The office said the damaged crops are T-Aman seed bed on 196 hectares, Aush on 1228 hectares, jute on 2459 hectares, vegetable on 495 hectares, sesame on 21 hectares, green chili on 39 hectares, maize on 12 hectares and ground nut on five hectares.

District Administration sources said the people who have taken shelter in the centres have started returning homes as flood water started receding since a couple of days .
