Two drug traders killed in Cox’s Bazar gunfight

DHAKA, July 6, 2020 (BSS) – Two alleged drug traders were killed in a gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Hrila BOP adjacent Abrong village on Sunday.

Commander of BGB 2 battalion of Teknaf Lt. Col. Foysal Khan confirmed the drug peddlers as, Alam (26) and Md Yasin (24), said a press release issued here.

Alam is the son of Md Kofi of Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar district while Yasin is the son of Md Ershad Ali of the Balukhali Rohingya refugee camp.

During the BGB operation, 50,000 Yaba tablets worth 1.5 crore taka, a foreign pistol and two rounds of cartridges were recovered, said the release.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB-2 went to Nanirbari area of Abrang village around 11pm when they came to know that a group of drug traders were gathering there.

As BGB members saw three people crossing the river, a patrol team prepared to challenge them, but sensing their presence, the peddlers tried to flee the spot.

While being chased, the peddlers fired at the patrol team and BGB fired them back.

Two drug dealers were found lying on the spot with gunshot wounds and were rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

The other drug dealer managed to flee the spot.

Two BGB members were injured during the gunfight and were admitted at Teknaf Upazila Health Complex.

Filling of a case in this regard with respective police station is underway.
