Flood situation in Jamalpur further improved

JAMALPUR, July 6,, 2020 (BSS) – With the significant recession of water from upper stream the overall flood situation in the district has gradually been improving.

According to Water Development Board the water of the river Jamuna dropped by 26 cm and was flowing 13 cm above the red mark at Bahadurabad ghat point during the last 24 hours ending 12 this noon.

Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Enamul Haque said with the receding of flood water the people who took refuge in different shelter centres have started returning to their homes.

He said district administration in collaboration with upazila administration and public representatives are working round the clock to help the flood victims.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said over three lakh 96 thousand 744 people of 351 villages in 49 unions under all seven Upazilas of the district have been affected in the flood.

The sources said flood also damaged 369 houses completely and 6393 houses partially. Beside 96 km earthen road, 17 km carpeted road, three kilometre embankment, 100 educational institutions and 39 mosques and orphanages have been damaged partially.

Department of Agriculture Extension office sources said standing crops on 13343 hectares have been submerged by flood water.

He said 534 tonnes rice, TK 12.5 lakh cash and 2000 packets dry food have been distributed among the flood affected people.

“Besides, TK two lakh for cow food and TK two lakh for baby food were allotted for the flood ravaged people of the district ,” he added
