COVID-19 cases jump to 3,445 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 6, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases jumped to 3,445 in Rangpur division as 92 new patients were reported on Sunday from two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur and Dinajpur.

Health officials said the 92 new patients were reported after diagnosing 376 collected samples of suspected coronavirus patents from all eight districts in the division.

Among the 92 new patients, 70 were reported after testing 188 samples at COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMC) in Rangpur and 22 after testing 188 samples at M Abdur Rahman Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur on Sunday.

“The total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 3,445 in Rangpur division till 8 am today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

“The district-wise break up of 3,445 patients is 1,090 in Rangpur, 151 in Panchagarh, 412 in Nilphamari, 171 in Lalmonirhat, 222 in Kurigram, 225 in Thakurgaon, 756 in Dinajpur and 418 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said. The number of recovered patients also continues increasing every day during the past one week and reached to 2,084 with the healing of 89 more people on Sunday at the recovery rate of 60.49 percent on an average in the division.

“The 2,084 recovered COVID-19 patients include 729 of Rangpur, 126 of Panchagarh, 297 of Nilphamari, 73 of Lalmonirhat, 118 of Kurigram, 160 of Thakurgaon, 410 of Dinajpur and 171 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddique added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 30,415 collected samples of Rangpur division were so far tested till Sunday, and of them, 3,445 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 11.32 percent.

“The recovery rate among the diagnosed COVID-19 patients currently stands at 60.49 percent against the infection rate considering the total tested samples stands at 11.32 percent in the division,” he said.

“Since the beginning from March 10 last, a total of 50,877 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 44,917 released and 5,960 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Khan said.

With the report of two more deaths, one each from Kurigram and Gaibandha districts, on Sunday, the total number of fatalities rose to 62 at the casualty rate of around 1.80 percent in the division.

Among the 62 deceased, 18 coronavirus patients died in Rangpur, three in Panchagarh, seven in Nilphamari, two in Lalmonirhat, five in Kurigram, two in Thakurgaon, 15 in Dinajpur and 10 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Among the total 3,445 COVID-19 patients, 119 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 2,084 recovered patients and 62 deaths while 1,180 remaining in home isolations in the division.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said highest importance has been put on containing COVID-19 spread and providing treatments to infected patients.

“Besides, comprehensive efforts are eon to inspire the people in maintaining physical distance, wearing masks and abiding by health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in the division,” Lyzu said.
