Tree plantation begins in Natore

NATORE, July 4, 2020 (BSS) – District Awami League General
Secretary Shafiqul Islam Shimul, MP, today inaugurated a tree
plantation program at Swadhinata Chattar in Madrasa crossing in the
city.

“Trees not only provide oxygen but also make our country and the
world livable for human beings by countering the adverse impacts of
climate change. Public health and the environment are paramount in the
current context as the global corona infection has shown us how much
oxygen is needed for life,” he said.

During the programme, saplings of different varieties of trees were
distributed at institutional and individual levels.

District Additional Forest Officer Satyendra Nath Sarkar told BSS
that the district forest department has provided more than 1.5 lakh
fruit, timber and medicinal saplings under the program ‘free
distribution of saplings’ and ‘distribution of saplings for planting
in marginal lands.

Under the programs, about fifty thousand saplings of trees are being
distributed at institutional and individual level including
educational institutions and religious institutions of Natore Sadar
Upazila.

The implementation of this program has already been started in
three upazilas of the district. The same program will start in
Naldanga upazila next Monday.

Natore Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Jahangir Alam conducted meeting.

Natore Municipality Mayor Uma Chowdhury Jolly, District Additional
Forest Officer Satyendra Nath Sarkar, District Awami League
Vice-President Sirajul Islam, District Awami League Joint General
Secretary Syed Mortaza Ali Bablu and District Krishak League Chairman
Kamal Uddin Master were also present, among others, on the occasion.
