COVID-19 cases in Khulna division reach 5,240

KHULNA, July 4, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 151 new more positive cases in a single day, in the last 24 hours till this noon, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients in the division reached 5,240, said a COVID-19 quarantine and isolation related daily report here today.

“We received 282 samples at Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) and other samples in Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon and 151 of those were found COVID-19 positive,” said Dr. Ferdousi Akhter, assistant director (Health) of Khulna division.

She said the newly detected 151 COVID-19 patients include 85 in Khulna, 30 in Kustia, 15 in Jhenaidah, five each in Bagerhat, Meherpur and Narail, three in Jashore, two in Chuadanga and one in Satkhira districts in the division.

District-wise break-up of the reported COVID-19 cases now stood at 2,364 in Khulna, 748 in Jashore, 708 in Kustia, 200 in Bagerhat, 239 in Chuadanga, 264 in Jhenaidah, 169 in Magura, 92 in Meherpur, 257 in Narail and 199 in Satkhira, the health official mentioned.

Dr Ferdousi said whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with Covid-19 patients, were brought to notice and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

Utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine, isolation and testing as these are being adjudged as important means of containing the community transmission of the virus, she added.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,583 patients have cured from the coronavirus infection while 27 more people were discharged after their recovery from the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all 10 districts of the division in the last 24 hours.

“Among the total 5,240 coronavirus infected persons, 577 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 1,583 have recovered and 86 died while the rest of the patients are remaining in isolation at their respective homes in the division,” she said.

Besides, a total of 86 fatalities, including two in the last 24 hours till this noon, were reported so far in the division with 30 in Khulna, 13 in Kustia, 12 in Jashore, seven in Narail, five each in Jhenaidah and Meherpur, four each in Bagerhat and Satkhira and three each in Chuadanga and Magura districts, Dr Ferdousi further mentioned.
