COVID-19 cases reach 3,136 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 4, 2020 (BSS) – The coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have sharply reached 3,136 in Rangpur division with finding out 210 new infections in a day after testing samples at three COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Dhaka on Friday.

“With the report of 210 new patients, total number of COVID-19 patients jumped to 3,136 in Rangpur division on Friday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Of them, 73 new patients were reported after testing 376 collected samples of Rangpur division at two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMC) and M Abdur Rahman Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

Besides, more 137 new COVID-19 patients were reported after testing 688 collected samples of Rangpur division at COVID-19 Laboratory at the National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Centre (NILMRC) in Dhaka.

The district-wise break up of the patients now stands at 1,014 in Rangpur, 150 in Panchagarh, 366 in Nilphamari, 151 in Lalmonirhat, 155 in Kurigram, 209 in Thakurgaon, 698 in Dinajpur and 393 in Gaibandha districts of the division. Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the people should become more aware of COVID-19 virus as its limited scale community transmission continues at some places in Rangpur division.

“With healing of 64 more COVID-19 infected people on Friday, the total number of recovered patients rose to 1,900 as the recovery rate is 60.58 percent in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

The recovered COVID-19 patients include 690 of Rangpur, 121 of Panchagarh, 277 of Nilphamari, 57 of Lalmonirhat, 96 of Kurigram, 147 of Thakurgaon, 375 of Dinajpur and 137 of Gaibandha districts.

“During the last 24 hours, 411 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 151 others released in the division,” Dr. Khan added.

Since the beginning, a total of 28,595 collected samples from Rangpur division were tested till Friday, and of them, 3,136 were found COVID-19 positive with the infection rate of 10.93.

At the same time, a total of 49,771 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 44,154 released and 5,617 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

With no more death reported on Friday, the total number of fatalities remains steady at 53 as the death rate is 1.69 percent in the division.

“Among the deceased, 16 COVID-19 patients died in Rangpur, 14 in Dinajpur, nine in Gaibandha, seven in Nilphamari, three in Panchagarh, two in Thakurgaon and one each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of the division,” Dr. Khan added.

Among the total 3,136 COVID-19 patients, 118 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals as 1,900 patients were released from quarantine after their recovery and 53 died while 1,065 are remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

Talking to BSS, Additional Division Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said the authorities concerned are working in a well-coordinated manner to prevent COVID-19 infection and provide proper health services to the infected patients.

“We have put maximum efforts to inspire people in maintaining physical distance, wearing masks and abiding by the health directives to prevent further community transmission of COVID-19 in the division,” Hossain added.
