COVID-19 cases cross 2,900 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 3, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases exceeded 2,900 as the highest number of 82 new patients were reported positive in a day after testing their samples in Rangpur division on Wednesday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 2,926 in all eight districts of the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

“Among the total 2,926 COVID-19 patients, 983 are of Rangpur, 146 of Panchagarh, 353 of Nilphamari, 126 of Lalmonirhat, 149 of Kurigram, 206 of Thakurgaon, 675 of Dinajpur and 288 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the total number of recovered patients rose to 1,836 with the healing of 90 more COPVID-19 infected people on Thursday in all eight districts of the division.

“Currently, the recovery rate stands at 62.74 among the total 2,926 COVID-19 patients in the division,” he said, adding that the attained recovery rate is much higher than the recovery percentage at the national level.

The 1,836 recovered COVID-19 patients include 659 of Rangpur, 121 of Panchagarh, 275 of Nilphamari, 57 of Lalmonirhat, 96 of Kurigram, 142 of Thakurgaon, 350 of Dinajpur and 136 of Gaibandha districts.

During the last 24 hours, 447 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 348 others released from all eight districts in the division.

With two more deaths reported from Dinajpur and one death from Nilphamari on Thursday, the total number of fatalities now stands at 53 in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the fatalities remains at 16 in Rangpur, 14 in Dinajpur, nine in Gaibandha, seven in Nilphamari, three in Panchagarh, two in Thakurgaon and one each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of the division,” Dr. Khan added.

A total of 49,351 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Among them, 44,006 have so far been released and 5,345 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in the division.

“Since the beginning, we have received a total of 27,656 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Wednesday, 2,844 found coronavirus positive with the infection percentage of 10.28 in the division,” he said.

After receiving a total of 1,72,316 pieces of personal protective equipment so far and 1,00,346 pieces of the same were distributed among the health service providers with a stock of 71,970 pieces in the division.

Divisional Commissioner (General) KM Tariqul Islam said the administrations with authorities concerned are working in a well-coordinated manner to prevent COVID-19 spread, provide health services to infected patients to face the situation in the division.

He especially urged the people to maintain physical distance, abide by health directives of the government and wear masks to remain safe and assist others in remaining safe for preventing community transmission of COVID-19 virus.
