Govt plans to buy rescue helicopter for Cht. port

DHAKA, July 1, 2020 (BSS)- State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said the government has a plan to buy helicopter alongside rescue ships for Chattogram Port, said a press release here.

“There are plans to buy not only rescue ships, but also Helicopter for Chattogram Port, side by side we would like to uplift the position of Chittagong port to 30-50th place in the world,” the state minister said while he was addressing a inaugural ceremony of a newly constructed building of Chattogram Port Hospital and Corona Ward there.

The state minister said, the probe-body formed by the Shipping Ministry will submit their report on the incident of launch capsize in the Buriganga river in the stipulated time frame. According to the investigation report, those who are responsible for the accident would be brought to book, he added.

Khalid also said many projects including Matarbari Deep Sea port, Bay Terminal, Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) are being implemented under Chittagong Port.

“Chattogram Port has achieved 64th position in the list of the world’s top 100 container handling ports in 10 years, now we would like to uplift its position to 30-50th place in the world,” he said, adding that the operational activities of the port did not stop even for a moment during the Corona period.

He said Chattogram port is the lifeline of Bangladesh. The port will also be on the side of the people of Chattogram from their social responsibility for ensuring the treatment of Covid-19.
