Preparation of Holey Artisan attack case paper book in final stage
DHAKA, July 01, 2020 (BSS) – Supreme Court authorities today said preparation of the Holey Artisan attack case is nearing its end to start holding hearing on the death reference of the convicts.
“The lower court concerned passed the judgement in the sensational case on November 27, 2019, and handed down death penalty to seven members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Now the paper book of the case is getting prepared at BG Press and it is in its final stage,” Supreme Court spokesperson Mohammad Saifur Rahman told BSS.
Dhaka Anti-terrorism Special Tribunal on November 27, 2019, sentenced seven accused to death in the sensation case filed over gruesome attack on an upscale cafe at capital’s Gulshan area on July 1, 2016.
Militants killed 20 innocent people, most of them foreigners, in the attack.
Two police officials valiantly laid down their lives while trying to save people there. Later, five militants were killed in a commando operation.
Police filed the case under the anti-terror act with Gulshan Police Station. The trial was initiated on November 26, 2018 by framing charges against the eight accused.
A total of 113 out of 211 witnesses have testified in the case.
The special tribunal sentenced -Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, Rakibul Hasan Regan, Rashedul Islam alias Rash, Sohel Mahfuz, Hadisur Rahman Sagar, Shariful Islam and Mamunur Rashid to death.
