Railway Hospital staff sent to jail over COVID-19 certificate forgery

DHAKA, July 1, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sent a staff of Railway General Hospital to jail for posing as a coronavirus (COVID-19) patient and submitting a forged certificate in this regard for getting government incentive.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam passed the order, sending the hospital’s medicine carrier Kutube Rabbani to jail.

The court came up with the order as police produced the accused before it following his one-day remand and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of the probe.

Police on June 28 arrested Rabbani from his home and seized the forged COVID-19 positive certificate. Police later filed a fraud case against him with Mugda Police Station.

According to the case documents, Rabbani posed as a COVID-19 patient and went into leave after submitting forged documents. He confessed to doing these all to get government incentives for getting infected in line of duty.

But National Security Intelligence (NSI) agents in their probe got to know about Rabbani’s forgery and he got arrested.
