DHAKA, June 25, 2018 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Syed
Khokon launched a 15-day campaign today to destroy larvae or pupae of Aedes
mosquitoes that transmit viral diseases — Chikungunya and Dengue.

Khokon inaugurated the programme in city’s Dhanmondi area by removing
stagnant water from houses and under construction buildings.

“The campaign would run at 57 wards,” Khokon said adding, “An experimental
drive would be run to destroy the breeding place of Aedes mosquito at minimum
100 houses of each ward.”

“This campaign would encourage people and create awareness on this issue.
If we keep our surroundings clean and remove stagnant water, then Aedes
mosquitoes will not breed,” he said.

The way of cleaning the breeding place would also be taught at that time,
he added.

The mayor also requested the city dwellers to clean bushes, gardens and
water containers around their houses as Aedes mosquitoes breed in stagnant
water.

Aedes mosquitoes choose to breed in tires, barrels, plastic drums and jerry
cans. But they are various other indoor and outdoor breeding sites for the
Aedes mosquitoes.
