Flood situation remains static in Jamalpur affects more people and crops

JAMALPUR, June 30, 2020 (BSS) – The overall flood situation in Jamalpur though remained static but over 2.56 lakh people and huge crops land have been affected.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said flood water affected 64252 families comprising two lakh 56 thousand 172 people in 185 villages.

The worst hit villages are 52 in Islampur, 43 in Dewanganj, 17 in Madarganj, 11 in Bakshiganj, 35 in Sarishabari and 27 in Melandah upazila.

According to Water Development Board Jamuna rose by two cm and was flowing 86 cm above the danger level at Bahadurabad ghat point during the last 24 hours ending 12 this noon.

Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture Extension Mohammad Aminul Islam said standing crops on 6908 hectares of land have been submerged by the flood water.

Dewanganj Upazila Nirbahi officer, Sultana Razia said flood water affected all the eight unions in the Upazila.

She said 173 families took shelters in four flood shelter centres. She said 20 tones rice was disbursed among the flood affected people.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Mohammad Nayeb Ali said so far three persons drowned in flood water and one died of snake bite in the last five days till today.
