1st session of Mongolia’s new parliament scheduled

ULAN BATOR, June 30 (BSS/Xinhua) – The first session of Mongolia’s new parliament, formed following Wednesday’s regular parliamentary elections, is scheduled for Tuesday, according to local media.

During the session, 76 newly elected legislators will be sworn in, and a new parliament speaker will be appointed, media reports said.

The ruling Mongolian People’s Party won a landslide victory in the regular parliamentary elections, taking 62 out of the 76 seats in the parliament, according to official results announced Friday.

Opposition Democratic Party won 11 seats, while two coalitions — the Right Person Electorate Coalition and Your and Our Coalition — won one seat each.

Former Mongolian Prime Minister Norov Altankhuyag, who ran as an independent candidate, got one seat.

The State Great Khural, Mongolia’s unicameral parliament, consists of 76 lawmakers, whose term lasts four years.
