Laila Arjumand Banu laid to eternal rest at GCC graveyard

DHAKA, June 29, 2020 (BSS) – Laila Arjumand Banu, wife of Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, was laid to eternal rest at Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) central graveyard after Johr prayers following her second namaj-e-janaza at a madrasah ground adjacent to the graveyard.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque joined the second namaj-e-janaza and sought doa from all for her wife.

Earlier, the first namaj-e-janaza of Laila was held at Haque’s village home at GCC Dakkhin village in Gazipur. Only son of the liberation war affairs minister ATM Mazharul Haque Tushar conducted the first namaj-e-janaza.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Rasel, Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, GCC Mayor Md Jahangir Alam, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Tariqul Islam and Gazipur City Awami League President Advocate Azmat Ullah Khan joined the namaj-e-janazas, among others, maintaining social distancing.

Laila Arjumand Banu breathed her last around 7:45 am today while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in the city at the age of 71, said a press release of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry.

Mozammel Haque and his wife were admitted to the hospital on June 13 last after they were diagnosed with coronavirus.

Although the minister returned home after his recovery, but his wife was undergoing treatment at the hospital as her condition was critical.

Laila Arjumand Banu is survived by husband, two daughters, one son, six grandchildren and a host of well-wishers.

Born on January 6 in 1949 to an aristocratic Muslim family in Gazipur, Laila Arjumand Banu was assistant head teacher of Joydebpur Rani Bilasmoni Girls’ High School.
