President mourns loss of lives in Buriganga launch tragedy
DHAKA, June 29, 2020 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the loss of lives in a launch tragedy in the Buriganga River this morning.
In a condolence message, the head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of the victims and conveyed his deep sympathy to their bereaved family members.
The launch named ‘ML Morning Bird’ was carrying over 50 passengers which sank in the Buriganga River at about 9 am.
The fire service sources said the engine boat capsized in the river as a Chandpur-bound launch hit it (Morning Bird) near about at Farashganj Ghat area near Dhaka Sadarghat while coming from Katpotti area of Munshiganj.
The Fire Service and Civil Defense personnel have so far recovered 28 bodies from the river after the launch accident.
