COVID-19 cases cross 2,600 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 29, 2020 (BSS) -The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 2,600 mark as 65 new patients were diagnosed positive with the lethal virus during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 2,656 with 65 more reported positive cases from all eight districts of Rangpur division on Sunday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 897 in Rangpur, 139 in Panchagarh, 334 in Nilphamari, 101 in Lalmonirhat, 134 in Kurigram, 202 in Thakurgaon, 588 in Dinajpur and 261 in Gaibandha districts in the division,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered of COVID-19 patients rose to 1,530 with healing of 94 more people after undergoing treatments at home isolations or Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in the division on Sunday.

“The average recovery rate among all 1,309 coronavirus infected patients stands at 57.60 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 1,530 recovered COVID-19 patients include 516 of Rangpur, 106 of Panchagarh, 243 of Nilphamari, 52 of Lalmonirhat, 77 of Kurigram, 134 of Thakurgaon, 311 of Dinajpur and 91 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 26,528 collected samples of Rangpur division were so far tested, and of them, the 2,656 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 10.01 in the division.

With no more death reported from anywhere on Sunday, the total number of fatalities stands at 49 in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the fatalities stands at 15 in Rangpur, 12 in Dinajpur, nine in Gaibandha, six in Nilphamari, three in Panchagarh, two in Thakurgaon and one each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of the division,” he said.

Among the total 2,656 coronavirus infected patients, 110 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 1,530 recovered patients and 49 deaths while 967 are remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 48,124 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 42,511 released and 5,613 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours, 269 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 276 others released from all eight districts in the division.

“After getting a total of 1,72,316 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 99,752 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 72,564 pieces in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

He said the government hospitals, health complexes and other health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to face the COVID-19 situation in Rangpur division.
