COVID-19 cases reach 2,591 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 28, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has reached the 2,591 mark in all eight districts of Rangpur division where a limited scale community transmission of the deadly virus continues at places. “The total number of COVID-19 patients stands at 2,591 as 50 new patients were reported positive on Thursday in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

“”The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 871 in Rangpur, 134 in Panchagarh, 330 in Nilphamari, 92 in Lalmonirhat, 131 in Kurigram, 200 in Thakurgaon, 578 in Dinajpur and 255 Gaibandha districts in the division,” he said.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the number of recovered of COVID-19 patients rose to 1,436 with recovery of 56 more people at their homes or dedicated corona isolation hospitals in Rangpur division on Saturday.

“The percentage of recovery among all 2,591 coronavirus infected patients stands at 55.42 in the division,” he said.

The 1,436 recovered COVID-19 patients include 488 of Rangpur, 81 of Panchagarh, 234 of Nilphamari, 52 of Lalmonirhat, 77 of Kurigram, 117 of Thakurgaon, 306 of Dinajpur and 81 of Gaibandha districts. “So far, a total of 26,152 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested, and of them, the 2,591 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 9.90 in the division.

With one more death reported from Dinajpur on Saturday, the total number of fatalities stands at 49 in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the fatalities stands at 15 in Rangpur, 12 in Dinajpur, nine in Gaibandha, six in Nilphamari, three in Panchagarh, two in Thakurgaon and one each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of the division,” Dr. Khan said. Among the total 2,591 coronavirus infected patients, 121 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 1,436 patients and 49 deaths while 985 others remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 47,860 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 42,570 released and 5,638 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours, 259 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 342 others released from all eight districts in the division.

After getting a total of 1,71,316 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 99,014 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 72,302 pieces in the division.

“We have put maximum importance on inspiring the people in abiding by the health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 along with testing samples and providing treatments to the infected patents in the division,” Dr. Khan added.
