RU teacher suspended for derogatory remarks against Nasim

RAJSHAHI, June 27, 2020 (BSS)- A teacher of Rajshahi University (RU) was suspended on charge of his derogatory remarks against Awami League’s late leader Muhammed Nasim through Facebook post on June 17 last.

The decision of suspending the teacher Kazi Zahidur Rahman has been taken in the meeting of syndicate, the highest policy-making body of the university, held today with RU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Abdus Sobhan in the chair.

VC Prof Sobhan told the journalists that the decision came into effect from the date of his arrest on June 18 last.

The decision has been taken following all the legal procedures, he added.

Kazi Zahidur Rahman, an assistant professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the university, was arrested from his residence at RU campus quarter at around 2:00am on June 18 last.

“The teacher was arrested under Digital Security Act for criticising veteran politician and Awami League presidium member Mohammed Nasim”, said Golam Ruhul Kuddus, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

Police arrested him in connection with a case filed under Sections 25, 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act, the police officer said, adding Tapos Kumar Saha, a lawyer, filed the case with Motihar police station last night.

Referring to the case record, Ruhul Quddus said the RU teacher criticised Nasim in two Facebook posts on June 1 and 2 when at that time, the former minister was battling for life at a hospital in Dhaka.
