COVID-19 cases reach 2,496 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 26, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has reached the 2,496 mark in all eight districts of Rangpur division where a limited scale community transmission of the lethal virus continues at some places.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients stood at 2,496 as 55 new cases were reported on Thursday in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

“The district-wise breakup of the patients stood at 835 in Rangpur, 132 in Panchagarh, 325 in Nilphamari, 88 in Lalmonirhat, 129 in Kurigram, 196 in Thakurgaon, 555 in Dinajpur and 236 Gaibandha districts in the division,” he said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 1,350 with recovery of 64 more people at their homes or dedicated corona isolation hospitals in Rangpur division on Thursday.

“The percentage of recovery among all 2,496 coronavirus infected patients is 54.08 in the division,” he said.

The 1,350 recovered COVID-19 patients include 478 of Rangpur, 81 of Panchagarh, 208 of Nilphamari, 51 of Lalmonirhat, 72 of Kurigram, 102 of Thakurgaon, 287 of Dinajpur and 71 of Gaibandha districts. “So far, a total of 25,400 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested, and of them, the 2,496 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 9.82 in the division,” he said.

With the three more deaths reported from Rangpur and Kurigram on Thursday, the total number of fatalities stood at 46 in the division.

“The district-wise breakup of the fatalities stood at 15 in Rangpur, 10 in Dinajpur, eight in Gaibandha, six in Nilphamari, three in Panchagarh, two in Thakurgaon and one each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of the division,” Dr. Khan said.

Among the total 2,496 coronavirus infected patients, 126 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals as 1,350 patients recovered and 46 deaths were reported while 974 others remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

Since the outbreak began, a total of 47,417 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 41,779 were released and 5,638 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours, 248 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 411 others were released from all eight districts in the division.

After getting a total of 1, 71,316 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, 98,406 pieces were already distributed among the health service providers with a stock of 72,910 pieces in the division.

“We have a capacity of 2,552 beds at 25 quarantine and isolation centres and 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two government hospitals to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients in the division,” Dr. Khan said.
